British Rail Diesel Brake Tender

Standard (rounded)

History

Built between 1962 & 1964 brake tenders were constructed to provide extra braking weight to trains form of unfitted freight powered by diesel locomotives. Due to their low weight, in comparison to the steam locomotives they replaced diesel locos were unable to properly stop goods trains where the wagons were not fitted with vacuum brakes. The tenders provided this weight and were fitted with vacuum brakes. All had been withdrawn by the mid 70’s
